When I listened to the rough mix, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with this song. It instantly reminded me of the classic hip-hop I grew up on in the 90s, and the fact that Griot Noy reminded me of Big L and Lil Dap (Group Home) only solidified it.
I decided to maintain a gritty texture, so I chose not to “over-mix” it. Instead, I stayed consistent with emulations of gear that would have been available at the time. When I sent it back, JR approved the first version immediately!
